MyIDCare Announces New Social Media Privacy and Fraud Protection Service Available for Premier Members.

Americans have a love/fear relationship with social media, and rightly so. Independent research shows that over 60 percent of us visit social media sites one or more times per day. Yet almost 70 percent of adults are worried about their social media privacy and security, 82 percent are worried about phishing and malware, and 3 out of 4 believe children’s privacy is highly at risk on social networks. These fears are justified: Over 13 million social media accounts are hacked every day, social media accounts are prone to massive breaches and security problems like the Facebook bug that put 50 million user accounts at risk in 2018, and even Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has had his social media accounts taken over multiple times.

In addition to risks from hacking or data breaches, your social media accounts can cause other serious problems. By clicking on a banner ad, you can unknowingly download malware. Many of those funny little online quizzes can expose your personal information and that of friends and family. And even a legitimate tag by a friend can post embarrassing content that could cost you if a potential employer, landlord, or lender looks at your social media page.

Social media does play an important role in our lives today, and most people aren’t willing to leave a social media network over privacy concerns. But we need tools to protect ourselves. That’s why the team at MyIDCare is so excited to announce SocialSentry™, the first-ever social media privacy service designed specifically to protect consumers.

Using artificial intelligence and machine learning, SocialSentry scans your linked social media profiles and your network of social media connections for malicious content or links, account impersonation or takeover, scams and fraud, and content that is violent, obscene, hateful, dangerous, or sexual in nature. When it finds fraudulent or inappropriate content that is associated with your social profiles, it immediately alerts you and gives you links and instructions to fix the problem. You can request removal of offending content, remove or hide malicious links, scams and fraudulent content, and even block users who post inappropriate content, all from one easy-to-use dashboard.

Social media privacy and fraud protection

Setting up SocialSentry is easy. Built on the MyIDCare™ platform, it can be used from any browser or via the MyIDCare mobile app for Apple iOS and Google Android. After subscribing to an individual or family Premier plan, go to your dashboard, select the social media platforms you want to protect, and enter any additional names or aliases you use on those accounts. When problems are found, you’ll receive alerts via your browser dashboard or mobile app, so you can take immediate action to delete, block, or take down the content.

Social media has enriched our lives in many ways, allowing us to stay in touch with friends and family, make new connections, build communities around our passions, and find support for our challenges. But, just as we need seatbelts in our cars, we need protection in this fast-moving online world. Now, with SocialSentry, we can all enjoy the benefits of social media while still protecting our privacy, security, and reputation.
